    Welcome!

    Welcome!

It started with a honeymoon. My husband and I booked San Diego Comic Con as our honeymoon destination — only to discover we couldn’t get tickets to the actual convention. The suggestion that followed was simple enough: start a nerd blog, build something, and then see if you can get a press pass. So I did. That Tumblr became Get Your Comic On. Two years later it moved to a full website. By 2018 the press pass arrived, and it hasn’t stopped since. Thirteen years, 1.5 million unique visitors, a podcast in the GoodPods top 100, and a team of…

  • The SUmmer of Supergirl begins…

One of the greatest privileges of the position that I find myself in is that I get to work very closely with Warner Bros. and DC Comics/DC Studios on their upcoming projects. Be that comics, film, TV, or games. Whatever it is, in the last few years I’ve had the immense pleasure of getting close to it. This week we kicked off the Summer of Supergirl with a special preview event showing off footage from the film in 4DX. My first experience of 4DX as well. Decided to document the day in a quick video for social media which you…

  • Learning to say “no” in an industry of Opportunities

November 22nd 2022. I enter the Cineworld in London’s Leicester Square looking for someone with a clipboard. I’m by myself and I have no idea what to expect. There’s no red carpet, no cameras, no glamorous influencers. But make no mistake, this was my very first press event, ever. Now for the disclaimer. I started GYCO in the summer of 2013. That first invitation was to Ralph Breaks the Internet by the way. Over a full 5 years after my journey began. Second of all, I never anticipated this would happen. I had never reached out to a PR person…

  • Balancing a Day Job and a Nerd Job

I keep it separate without keeping it a secret… That’s the mantra I’ve used in order to maintain a professional separation between a near two-decade career in the NHS and running a nerdy website. One of those jobs pays the bills and keeps a roof over my head. The other keeps me very busy with a rewarding and full social life. But do the two really sit side-by-side in peaceful harmony? For the most part, yes. I’ve been able to utilise a bunch of different tools to help one job from never bleeding into the other. Firstly, I’m very lucky…

  • Why a Personal Website?

I guess the question that’s going to come up as soon as I publicise this website and add it to my online profiles will be: why a personal website? So I’m going to use this post to tackle a couple of questions. Why a website? I’ve been utilising LinkedIn quite a bit to post about aspirations. But there’s only so far a LinkedIn profile can reach. Now felt like a good time to have a permanent place to share my work, more about who I am outside of Get Your Comic On and what my aspirations are in the industry.…

I’m Neil

I’m the founder and editor-in-chief of Get Your Comic On, an independent UK pop culture publication covering comics, film, TV, gaming and anime. Thirteen years in, and I’m still just a kid who got excited about a comic con press pass.
